Senior Backend Developer (Node.js)

We're  looking for a Senior Backend Developer (Node.js) who is passionate about our mission to revolutionize the way teams and individuals manage tasks, documents, and workflows. 

As a Senior Backend Developer at Burai, you will architect and build the foundation that powers our platform.

Burai is a powerful SaaS platform designed to transform the way teams and individuals manage tasks, documents, and workflows. It integrates seamlessly with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365, and various third-party integrations, offering a centralized, user-friendly interface where users can organize, prioritize, and collaborate on all project-related activities. Whether  you're  leading a complex project or managing day-to-day tasks, Burai streamlines the process, ensuring efficiency and clarity across all stages of your work, decluttering your work environment and reducing the need for context switching when using different tools and channels of communication.

In this role,  you'll   be responsible for  designing, implementing, and  maintaining  scalable backend services using Node.js.  You'll  work on integrations, data synchronization, and building APIs that support thousands of concurrent users. 

Collaborating closely with our front-end team, DevOps engineers, and product managers,  you'll  help ensure our architecture can scale while  maintaining  excellent performance and reliability. This role is based in our  Varaždin  or Zagreb (Croatia) office with an office-centric hybrid schedule.

As a   Senior Backend Developer (Node.js), you will:

• Collaborate  in a team of 5-10 highly motivated individuals
  

• Work on solving challenging  programming and architectur al   problems
  

• Have a voice that will  impact  decisions
  

• Communicate with front-end team members  and product managers  to minimize misunderstandings
  

• Write maintainable code, respecting industry standards
  

• Write a documentation for the code
  

• Perform code reviews
  

• Support less experienced developers

About You:

• 5+ years of experience in JavaScript development
  

• Proactive, organized, curious, empathetic
  

• Strong  proficiency with Node.js and the Express.js framework
  

• Knowledge of Nest.js or the Fastify  framework is a plus
  

• Experience with TypeScript and modern JavaScript features (ES6+)
  

• Demonstrated experience writing complex SQL queries, designing database schemas, and  optimizing  performance through proper indexing
  

• Experience  with  other DBMS used for ingesting high volumes of data is a plus
  

• Proven experience with Redis or similar in-memory databases
  

• Experience with AWS is a plus
  

• Experience with message queuing systems (e.g., AWS SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or NATS)
  

• Strong understanding of service organization  and microservices architecture
  

• Experience with API design and RESTful services
  

• Experience with New Relic  or any other log or metric ingestion platform is a plus
  

• Experience with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration. Experience with Kubernetes is a plus
  

• Knowledge of testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha, etc.)
  
• Knowledge of security best practices
